The project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund for 2021-2027.

Project goal, target group
The goal of the project is to ensure the quality and diversity of educational support and coordinated services in Alytus District Municipality.

Children with special educational needs, children receiving free meals, their parents (guardians, caregivers), teachers, and educational support specialists.

Problems addressed by the project
By implementing the regional development plan progress measure No. 12-003-03-02-01 "Implement inclusive education", we will address the problem of Alytus District Municipality's 2021-2028 strategic development plan, No. 2 "Smart, active, focused community, progressive, socially responsible municipality" root cause No. 2.3 "Promote integrated social, economic local development and inclusive education services".

When organizing social services, special attention is needed for children growing up in families experiencing social risk, as children in these families lack proper conditions for positive socialization, the risk of violence increases, and there is a threat of negative socialization. Social services are particularly needed for residents of elderates located further from the district center.

Project activities
During the project, institutions and organizations providing services in different activity areas (education, social, health care and culture) will be combined. The project aims to develop inclusive education, i.e., to encourage diversity in education and educational support provision forms.

Planned new services/activities:
1) Big Brothers Big Sisters methodology (implementation, consultations and execution (according to this voluntary mentoring program, professionals select and train volunteers who will communicate with children and teenagers at least once a week for a minimum of one year, providing emotional support and showing positive examples);
2) Sensory integration;
3) Animal therapy;
4) Art therapy, movement therapy;
5) Psychotherapist and occupational therapist consultations.

Sensory spaces will be installed and additional tools will be purchased in six Alytus district schools (i.e., all gymnasiums).

Project results
Children with special educational needs will be integrated not only into the education process but also into after-school activities, and services will be coordinated for children and their parents. During the project, teachers and support specialists will be trained on how to work with children having behavioral and emotional disorders. The project will also focus on service development for these children.

Total project value: 499,910.09 Eur, of which European Regional Development Fund funding is 449,169.22 Eur, Alytus District Municipality budget funds - 50,740.87 Eur.

Project implementation period – February 2025 – February 2028.
